Made for the Maestro: Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Made Plus Step into a Unique Collaboration

Annapolis-based environmentally sustainable shoe brand collaborates with Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, engaging patrons and customers to vote on custom shoes made specifically for Maestro José-Luis Novo

Annapolis, MD (November 4, 2025) — The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Made Plus are coming together in perfect harmony to celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and community through a one-of-a-kind collaboration: Made for the Maestro.

In this imaginative partnership, Made Plus will manufacture a custom pair of shoes for Maestro José-Luis Novo, brought to life after a crowdsourced vote for one of three designs. Maestro Novo has served as Conductor and Artistic Director of the ASO since 2004. He is beloved by ASO patrons for his Spanish roots, accessible programming, creation of inclusive connections from the stage to the audience, and for his deep pride in Annapolis and the ASO. This collaboration will highlight a bespoke addition to his wardrobe that will carry him from school drop-off to the stage, and from strolling the streets of Spain to making music in Annapolis. Voting on the shoes will commence on November 7 and continue to December 10, when the final version will be created at the Made Plus factory in Annapolis and debuted by Maestro Novo at the Symphony’s Holiday Pops Concerts in December. The orchestra dress code has long been a conversation amongst musicians and artistic administrators alike, and this collaboration is an exciting entree and contribution to that conversation.

“I’ve always aspired to bring together local entrepreneurs who share the same dedication to creativity and excellence that we value at the Symphony,” said Novo. “This collaboration with Made Plus is a perfect example of how two Annapolis organizations—one crafting music, the other crafting environmentally sustainable and comfortable shoes—can come together to orchestrate a fun and meaningful campaign for our Symphony community.”

Connected by Excellence

Made Plus is reimagining how shoes are made. Every pair is handcrafted to order in Annapolis, Maryland, using high-quality, sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing practices. By merging innovation with artistry, Made Plus eliminates waste, reduces environmental impact, and supports local craftsmanship—all while creating shoes that move with purpose and style.

Similarly, the ASO is a high caliber orchestra with a mission to bring musical excellence to their patrons and audience. The ASO was founded in 1961, and today includes 70 union represented musicians, including 58 tenured players. Located in Annapolis, Maryland, the ASO produces a robust season of orchestral concerts at Maryland Hall, at locations throughout the county, at The Music Center at Strathmore in College Park and this season for the first time, at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore.

“At Made Plus, we believe innovation and artistry belong in the same conversation. Collaborating with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra brings that idea to life—two local organizations, both rooted in creativity, performance, and passion for our craft,” said Alan Guyan, Founder and CEO of Made Plus. “We’re proud to make something special right here in Annapolis that celebrates the Maestro’s story and the energy of this incredible community.”

Crowdsourced Collaboration

The collaboration between the ASO and Made Plus shoes includes the design and manufacture of a Made Plus shoe handcrafted for Maestro Novo. ASO patrons, Made Plus customers, and the general public can vote between 3 exclusive Made Plus shoe designs, each inspired by Maestro Novo’s signature style, the vibrancy of the ASO, and the joy of giving customized and special gifts during the holiday season. Everyone who casts a vote will be entered into a raffle to win their own pair of Made Plus shoes (valued at up to $180) and 2 tickets to an upcoming Season 64 Signature Series concert with the ASO. Voting is accessible through each company’s website and social media channels, as well as in person at the ASO’s upcoming concert, Darkness to Light. The winning pair will be revealed—and worn by Maestro Novo—on stage during the ASO’s Holiday Pops Concerts, which feature the Bowie State University Concert Choir. From beginning to end, this collaboration will spread both festive cheer and artistic flair.

"Made for the Maestro is a perfect reflection of the ASO's commitment to sustainability, local artistry, and community engagement,” said ASO Executive Director Erica Bondarev Rapach. “By joining forces with a local brand that creates bespoke, thoughtfully designed shoes, we're creating something unique and memorable that celebrates the remarkable talent found in Annapolis, both on and off the stage."

The Made for the Maestro campaign highlights a goal shared by the ASO and Made Plus: to inspire, enrich, and unite through creative collaboration that benefits the wider community. For more information and to cast your vote, visit AnnapolisSymphony.org/MadeForTheMaestro.
